Bad News / Good News
posted by John @ 12:00 AM

I've got some bad news and some good news...

Bad news:  No BV show this week.
Good news:  No BV show this week.
(I thought I'd cover both our fanbase and our detractors)

Bad news:  Re-construction of New Orleans is still ongoing.
Good news:  Re-construction of my basement starts this week!

Bad news:  Preparing for construction involves moving lots of heavy objects and cleaning out our storage room.
Good news:  I'm finding some old, long-lost memorabilia my wife and I have gathered over the years, like one of my old cell phones that's the size of a Christmas goose.

Hang loose, stay cool, and we'll catch you on the flipside.

Prangstgrup!
posted by Rich @ 11:22 AM

Leo over at Neural Gourmet just emailed a few links to this group of people called Prangstgrup who apparently go around to colleges, pose as students, and perform pranks in the libraries and lectures.  I love practical jokes, and what I love about these practical jokes in particular, is that they're really at no ones expense.  Check them out.

  • A prank in a lecture.

Sometimes I Could Just Kick Myself
posted by Rich @ 5:08 PM

Why is it that every once in a while, humans (read: ME)  sometimes do the stupidest of things?  If the guys in the band Spinal Tap were here right now, I'd be bending over and saying, "Kick my ass, OK?  Kick this ass for a man, that's all.  Kick my ass, enjoy!  Come on, I'm not asking, I'm telling with this!"

What's with all of this self loathing, you ask?  Well... last night I decided to wash my clothes, like I do every Saturday, so I did.  Except this time I washed my wallet, too.

Wallets are strange things.  You don't realize how much stuff you actually have in it, until you see it all in a heaping pile of mushy, washed out, runny waste.  What kind of stuff you ask?  Well, I had lots of papers in it... you know, odds and ends phone numbers, email addresses (both with no reference to who or what they were), a few sentimental things, photos, ID's, etc...

Everything that was normal paper is basically gone.  The photos I had that were done on a little home photo printer last year are ruined.  That ink gets really soft and runny from water, and almost looks melted.

The good new is:

  1. I needed a new wallet anyway.
  2. I needed to clean a lot of that old paper crap out of the wallet long ago.
  3. The real important things like my drivers license are basically made of plastic now.
  4. The other important cards (insurance ID cards, etc...) while ruined, are easily replaced.  In fact, I've already called the various companies and ordered replacements through their automated systems.
  5. Money is designed to be laundered (literally!).  I rarely carry much anyway.
  6. I had either negatives, or CD's of all of the photos in my wallet, and I've already made copies.

I think the lesson to be learned here is:

DON'T WASH YOUR FREAKIN WALLET.  IT'S A MAJOR PAIN IN THE REAR.

A Pleasant Evening With A Lovely Woman
posted by Rich @ 11:00 PM

Tonight I had a most pleasant evening with a lovely woman.  Her name was Cheryl Bentyne... and... well... I wasn't alone with her.  I shared her with about 300 other people.

If her name rings a bell, it probably should since she is one of the best jazz singers on the planet.  Her name might also ring a bell because she is a member of an amazing vocal group called The Manhattan Transfer.  Tonight's solo performance was a joy to behold, and I wish you all could have been there.  There's nothing quite like a night of lovely music in an intimate venue.

In a word, the evening was SCRUMTRILESCENT.
