My Music Meme Answers
posted by Rich @ 12:03 AM

OK, here are my answers to John's music meme.  I guess this meme starts here!

1.  Have you found a song running through your head on more than one occasion?  What is it?

I can't think of one song in particular.  Usually it's just a song that someone at work was singing, or perhaps the song that I was listening to when I turned to car off before I went into work.

2. If you've gone through a particularly bad breakup, what song do you associate with it?

I can't recall a song that I associate with a bad breakup, but I do have a song that I associate with my high school sweetheart, and that's She's Got A Way by Billy Joel.

3. What's your musical guilty pleasure?  A band, song, or genre that you enjoy but are ashamed to admit it?

As I said on the show, I've been know to enjoy an Abba tune or two.  And hey, who doesn't like The Partridge Family and the Monkees?

4.  Name a song that makes you sing out loud when you're alone in the car?

There isn't one song or one band in particular.  But if it's a song that I like that happens to be on a CD that I'm listening to, I'll sing along, or sing harmonies.  If On Reflection by Gentle Giant were playing, I would definitely be singing.

5. Name a song, band, or genre that forces you to change radio stations and possibly even rip the knob off?

Most classic rock makes me want to gouge my eyes out with rusty spoons.  Barracuda by Heart, Dream on by Aerosmith, Stairway... you get the idea.

6. Is there a song that can make you cry?

As John pointed in in a previous show, I'm a very closed person, so little makes me cry.   :-)  But when my aunt Gee (Genevieve) died last fall, the CD in my player at that time was Simon Fox, and I played his song The Fisherman OVER AND OVER, and it now reminds me of my aunt, and puts me into a special frame of mind.

7. Is there a song that always cheers you up?

Not one in particular.  But there are many songs in the Steve Morse catalog that can affect my moods in different ways.  Typically one of his songs composed for Nylon String Classical Guitar and Violin will cheer me up.

8. Is there a single song that reminds you of high school?

Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics totally reminds me of the summer year between my Junior and Senior years in HS.  China Girl by David Bowie does as well.  One record I thought of after we got done taping was the first album by the band Asia.  When ever my friends and I would get together and have a pizza party, we would literally ALWAYS be playing that record.

And so now I pass the first BV Music Meme torch to Kirsten at Enjoy Every Sandwich.  Enjoy!

Guess who just answered your meme on my blog? It is Mike Marrone, program director of XM Radio's Channel 50 The Loft. I'm publishing it in the comments right now.
