My memory of Soylent Green was that it was called "SoyLent" because it was *supposed* to be soybeans and lentils, but in fact it was people. Not that I've seen that movie in 30 years.
I think that a history-based movie does its job if it drives you to research the real person or event. That's when you will get the real facts.
