The Biddies Are Fabulous!
posted by Rich @ 11:38 PM

The Biddies!

John and I both went to see the Lascivious Biddies tonight, LIVE, IN CONCERT at SUNY IT in Utica NY.  I just got back and wanted to tell you all that they are AMAZING in concert.  They're great players, great song-writers, they're funny, and they're sweet (and they're pretty easy on the eyes. too).

They did a smokin set, which included all of the tunes of theirs that we've played on our show, and lots of other cool tunes as well.

After the show we chatted about music and just had a great time.  John and I both bought DVD's and CD's, and recommend that you do that as well.  You won't be disappointed.

At one point, Lee Ann, their lead singer even had her recorder out, talking to us, which I think will make it onto one of their future podcasts.  I can't wait to hear it.

Death by Sandwich
posted by John @ 7:30 AM

The Gateway Grizzlies, a minor league baseball team in Illinois has added a new food item to their concession stand.  In what could be called a marriage made in hell, the new item is comprised of a bacon cheeseburger placed between two halves of a Krispy Kreme glazed doughnut.  I must admit that a Krispy Kreme is a yummy indulgence, but combined with a burger it's a gut bomb.  If you think I'm making this up, check it out for yourself.

Has anyone else noticed this strange trend?  At county fairs, people are serving up battered and deep fried Twinkies, Oreos, Snickers, and yes, slices of cheesecake.  It is as if a segment of society sees a push for more healthy choices, and decides to create obscene alternatives.  It's food porn.  What ever happened to enjoying a simple treat now and then?  What happened to moderation?

It's official - Florida needs something to do

I really have nothing to say about this.  OK, maybe one thing.  I love Pecan Pie, but there's nothing like a good Key Lime Pie.

MAKE: your own coffee roaster!
posted by John @ 6:59 AM

Anyone who knows me is well aware of my love for coffee.  I think it's my favorite food (don't tell pasta I said that).  Here's some amazing science - the best coffee is the freshest coffee.  Ideally, you want to be grinding and brewing coffee within a day or two of roasting.  After grinding, it all goes downhill rather quickly.  But, we suffer in silence, scooping the months-old ground beans out of the big can.

...well, NO MORE!

Check out this handy instructional page on how to make your own coffee roaster out of a hot air popcorn popper.  Pick up some green coffee beans and prepare yourself for the best cuppa' joe EVER!
