You said in this podcast that this wasn't "must see tv" - I disagree. If I don't get my bloodyveg on monday morning I'm a bit crabby. It makes my workday a little more fun.
Thank you! I always love knowing I have such power over people.
But seriously, we're not trolling for compliments. Rich and I both enjoy the shows and have a feeling that our brand of conversation appeals to some people. Describing what the show is about remains a challenge, and I suspect that makes us less marketable. We can't be summed up in a phrase like, "the show about baby wipes".
If you had to describe the show to someone else, or asked to summarize it quickly, what would you say?
I, too, am lost on Mondays without my BV fix. I have an incredibly stupid and boring task I have to do every Monday which I have managed to stop putting off until the last minute and then panicking that I won't get it done. Now I do it first thing in the morning while listening to BV so it no longer feels like I'm just wasting time on meaningless busywork.
How to sum up the show? Well, if we set aside the deconstructing stereotypes schtick for a minute, I'd say it's a gently lefterly view of culture and politics exchanged over a bottle of wine.
You got me thinking. Perhaps I'll subtitle the show, "John's excuse to drink a bottle of wine."
"Lefterly"?
Is that one of your Crazy UFO Lady terms? :-)
It's nice to know that we make your "incredibly stupid and boring task," somewhat less so. :-)
Apparently my attempts at sounding like a Conservative have failed.
Maybe I just talk too much?
I just wish I knew what any of those political terms meant.
I wish I knew what those political terms meant anymore, too. But that's why I said "gently lefterly" rather than left. It sounds more vague and noncommittal. The thing is if you are looking for a quick summary, you are getting awfully gosh darned close to requesting a label.
You can always have tng be the crazy far left ideologue on the show. That'll make you sound about as far right as George Will. Of course it's likely to get you monitored by the NSA too.
Re pay for listen:
Some people, but not all, are willing to pay for TV, either cable or per download from iTunes. Hardly anyone will pay to view a website. So where do you fall in that range? The TV shows cost a million dollars an episode in some cases, and they're marginal.
For me the free nature of the net & podcasts is half the charm. Everyone who wants to can add ameteur content for nearly free, and everyone benefits. Nothing gets the distortion that comes from trying to impress people so you're worth money to them. So it all feels more real, man :)
